We are delighted to welcome the newest addition to the Albion team. Calum has joined us as an Environmental Technician and has answered some of our questions to help get to know him better!
Calum Tait
Environmental Technician
Favourite Quote: “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you\’re going to get”
Job Role: As an Environmental Technician I undertake out a wide range of tasks. These include environmental monitoring (landfill gasses, surface water, and groundwater), site investigations, and waste analysis – as well as whatever needs to be done! The work is country wide and often in interesting places. In the office I help with collating and reporting data as well as preparing for projects.
Experience: I am a recent graduate of the University of Glasgow, where I achieved a Geography BSc degree. At university I studied many areas that are relevant to my job, such as conservation, sustainability, river pollution, soils, and learnt relevant computer skills. I worked for Albion on a short term Waste Analysis project, to initially see whether I was interested in the sector. I enjoyed the work and was interested to hear about what else the company was involved in. So, when the opportunity came to work full time I jumped at the chance!
Favourite project I have worked on: I have only been working with Albion for a short time but have already been involved in a variety of projects. My favourite so far would be groundwater and surface water monitoring at a ex-mining site in East Ayrshire. The sun was shining and I was surrounded by lovely scenery!
Get to know me: I love travelling and seeing new places, be that in Scotland or further away, and I spend as much time as I can exploring. This means that I enjoy the travel involved in my job. In the summer I like to wild camp, if the weather behaves! I am an animal lover and used to work in an animal rescue centre – although sadly now I don’t have enough time for any pets. I like to keep myself fit and enjoy hillwalking, running and cycling – although living in Scotland this does tend to be quite seasonal!
When I’m not working you’ll find me: Hopefully exploring a sunny city somewhere abroad; more likely spending time with friends and family somewhere more local!
