Favourite Quote: \’Be the change you wish to see in the world\’ – Gandhi. \’Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible\’ – Dalai Lama.

Job Role: As a senior consultant and researcher, my main role is to provide support to clients to ensure their waste recycling / treatment / disposal facility is legally compliant without adverse impact on the environment. I help clients with waste management licence applications, PPC permit applications, exemptions, surrenders, modifications and so on. As part of a team, I also provide support to clients with planning permission applications and variations.

Experience: I have over 13 years of experience in the Waste Management and Resource Industry, currently an IEMA Practitioner (PIEMA). I’m a qualified lawyer who completed my law degree in Brazil before coming to the UK about 20 years ago. I’m Brazilian. As I wanted to work in subjects related to the environment, I did a Masters in Law (LLM) in International Environmental Legal Studies at the Newcastle University and after that I completed an MSc in Integrated Waste Management in Glasgow. Since then I’ve been working in this field and keep learning every day and enjoying it.

Favourite project I\’ve worked on at Albion: My favourite projects since working with Albion Environmental (for about 6 years), were probably those related to helping clients to go through planning applications and WML and permitting applications so they can initiate their recycling operations. Also as part of the job, I find visiting the plants very interesting as you learn about all the recycling equipment and MRFs technologies.

Get to know me: I love Scotland, the people and the outdoors. I have climbed 158 Munro\’s so far, without double counting the ones I’ve done more than once! I even climbed the Inn Pinn in Skye, that’s my personal achievement! I also do yoga and meditation which I find quite helpful especially during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

A few years ago I visited Freetown, Sierra Leone, as a volunteer with a group of other volunteers. We had organised ourselves before getting there in order to support their waste management industry so they could develop and organise themselves to improve the waste management situation in the city. Everyday we had organised tasks in the morning and a debrief in the evening. We divided ourselves into groups to try and achieve the best we could in only a few weeks. It was an unforgettable experience and hope to go back to continue the support. While there, we met incredible people who were very interested to listen to our recommendations and to learn, and very keen to do whatever necessary in order to develop and improve their city’s waste management situation.

I\’m also proud of my time in Ecuador living in the the Picalqui Community with two other volunteers helping with their reforestation project. From working in the tree nursery to actually planting the trees!

I also practice yoga to keep me sane : )

When I’m not working, you’ll find me..at the mountains!
