Congratulations to Margaret Vize from Inverclyde Council who is the first Waste Management candidate to complete the SQA award ‘Undertake Mentoring in the Workplace – H6JF04’ which was part of a programme supported by Zero Waste Scotland last year.
The Workforce Development Group brings together individuals, local authorities and businesses who meet to discuss their collective aim of raising standards in learning and development and Health & Safety through improving:
- Standardisation
- Networking
- Growing collective learning and development opportunities
- Sharing good practice, materials and experience
The group identified that there was a gap in the sector between people who were good at carrying out their job and people who were able to mentor and support others doing their jobs. To provide support to the sector and enhance skills an opportunity was created to enable identified suitable candidates to work towards a recognised mentor qualification and then, if required, could progress to becoming an assessor. This qualification would also benefit those who currently mentor other staff and colleagues but have no formal qualification.
