North Ayrshire Council recently extended Albion Environmental Ltd.’s landfill management cover role to October 2013.
North Ayrshire Council's landfill site at Shewalton Road, Irvine currently accepts household waste (excluding
co-mingled waste) collected from the North Ayrshire Council Area. Albion Environmental Ltd. were originally appointed to manage the landfill site in November 2010 on a short term contract. This contract has been extended on several occasions and Albion Environmental Ltd are delighted to have been appointed on all extensions resulting in an uninterrupted presence on the site for two years.
During that time, and with the support of North Ayrshire Council, Albion Environmental Ltd have managed to improve the site's SEPA appraisal level from poor to good. This has had the added benefit of greatly reducing the level of complaints received from both SEPA and the general public. Albion Environmental Ltd has also developed a long term development and financial plan for the site which allows information to be passed on to Council officials and their elected members to be used in determining required budgets for the site.
In addition, Albion Environmental Ltd, have also developed and instigated a training plan for the site operators which includes matters such as Health and Safety Training, Plant Operatives Training, in-house tool box talks and compliance with the site permit.
Albion Environmental Ltd recognise the importance of recycling wastes not only for the Council but as a National Target and over the last 24 months have taken cognisance of wastes delivered to the site and have recommended several recycling matters to the Council that have subsequently been implemented.
Albion Environmental Ltd have also developed a communication protocol which encourages and allows regular contact with all third party stakeholders including SEPA and the general public.
