The Environmental Services Association (ESA) has asserted that there is not enough evidence to back-up the claim that increasing the number of energy from waste (EfW) plants is inherently detrimental to recycling levels.
The ESA has also questioned the idea that the UK is heading towards over-capacity with regard to the number of EfW plants with planning permission. The ESA states that, despite planning permission having been granted, not all of these plants will be built, and added that a rising population and the gradual economic recovery will likely mean that waste levels will rise rather than fall in coming years.
