BBC’s Apprentice highlights Apprenticeship Scheme

Albion Environmental (and WAMITAB) were delighted to see entrepreneurship in the Waste sector, highlighted on the current series of The Apprentice (aired on BBC1 8th June). The Waste industry has suffered in the past as being perceived as a low level, low skilled working environment, however, the task shown in The Apprentice demonstrated the high levels of skill needed to ensure that waste is disposed of, and recycled in, a profitable way.

WAMITAB, the awarding organisation for the Waste, Resource and Recycling Management industries is at the forefront of promoting training, education and qualifications to professionalise this valuable industry.

WAMITAB have a new Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management, which combines on-and-off-the job training that will enable an apprentice to operate appropriately and in accordance with the requirements of their employer and the needs of the business.

The Apprenticeship framework is designed for candidates that are new entrants to the Resource Management industry or existing employees who wish to develop and improve their skill levels and for career progression.

Dr Lawrence Strong, WAMITAB Director General said, “In tough economic times, research shows that updating the skills of staff or retraining them in new areas improves an organisation's productivity, profitability and ability to adapt to change.  In fact, organisations that don't train their staff are two and a half times more likely to go out of business than those that invest in training”.

If your company would like to find out more about the Apprenticeship, please call Alasdair Meldrum at Albion Environmental Ltd on 01292 610428 or email.
