Good news for our team at Albion! We have been working with a client to have their landfill WML licence surrendered. The landfill site had been filled and completed back in 2002 and the existing quarry and stone processing facility had encroached onto the former landfill site. The client needed to demonstrate to SEPA that the site no longer posed a risk to the environment and that its WML could be surrendered, which would reduce the administration burden on both the client and SEPA. To show the site no longer posed a risk to the environment we needed to demonstrate the following:
- Quality and quantity of leachate present
- Flow and concentration of gas
- Potential for generating polluting leachate or gas
- Potential for leachate or gas to reach sensitive receptors
- Possibility of physical instability of the waste or retaining structures
- Presence of particular problem wastes
In order to identify the above, our team of experts undertook a thorough site investigation, installed landfill gas monitoring points and excavated 12 trial pits for soil analysis. Using our technical experts we then developed a report with the findings to support the licence surrender application, as required by SEPA.
This report was accepted by SEPA and we are delighted that our client is now in receipt of a surrender notice for the former landfill site WML. This will result in ongoing savings for the client in terms of annual subsistence charges and environmental monitoring costs.
Our team includes technical experts who supervised the installation of landfill gas monitoring points, the collection of samples for soil analysis, and development of monitoring plans to meet client and SEPA requirements. The team is formed by highly qualified environmental consultants who have many years of experience with the submissions of not only licence surrender applications but also PPC permits; WML applications and variations; and planning applications for a variety of operations and developments related to the resource management field.
With our team of experts on both the technical side and on the applications process, we make sure we provide clients with a cost effective one-stop-shop to help them with licence applications and PPC permits. For more information please contact us.
