Food waste messages for maximum impact – how to engage your residents in prevention and collections

This new research is aimed at helping local authorities communicate more effectively with their residents about food waste, making it easier for householders to save money by not wasting good food and drink, and use their food waste collection service for any food they cannot use.

WRAP research shows that around £12 billion of good food is thrown away each year by UK households, and 4 million tonnes of household food waste still ends up in landfill every year. Thanks to this research we know one of the main barriers to people taking action to reduce their food waste, or to effectively participate in their collection service, is a lack of awareness that we waste food, how much we waste and the benefits of reducing and recycling it.

For any local authorities looking to use this research 1:1 support is available from WRAP. For more information please contact Emma Marsh – emma.marsh@wrap.org.uk
