SEPA have written an open letter to clarify their expectations on the implementation of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 with regard to commercial waste services.
The 2012 Regulations took effect on 1 January 2014, imposing new recycling obligations on your customers and minimum levels of service on your company/organisation.
The purpose of this letter is to ensure you are aware of the requirements and to help you explain the new requirements to your customers.
SEPA is giving piece of advice to commercial customers on dry recyclables, food waste recycling and reasonable excuse for failure to ensure the collection of dry recyclable waste and food waste.
Additionally, SEPA is also giving advice to waste collection service providers to take all reasonable steps to ensure that waste is managed in a manner that promotes high quality recycling, and that their commercial customers have an adequate waste collection service to enable them to comply with the Regulations.
