Albion Environmental Limited

Albion Environmental deliver project to Falkirk Council to enable a separate food and glass waste collection service

Background

Falkirk Council introduced a separate food and glass waste collection service to continue its aim of recycling/re-using as much waste as possible to reduce the amount of waste being disposed to landfill. The council wanted to operate a transfer facility for this waste at both their Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) at Roughmute in Bonnybridge and Kinneil Kerse in Bo’ness.

Our Support

Albion Environmental designed both facilities, obtained the necessary permissions from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA). It was essential that the design and operation of both facilities satisfied all relevant aspects of the Animal By-Products Legislation. We also provided project management of the construction works and the development of all the operational documents, method statements and risk assessments for both facilities.

Results

Albion Environmental successfully designed and project managed the construction of both facilities within time and within budget.

Both sites were issued with all necessary permissions to allow the commencement of the operations to suit the Council. All operators have been trained to operate the facility to the highest of standards and in full compliance of all legislation.

Benefits to the Client

Albion Environmental carried out operator training sessions for both facilities. This included delivering training sessions to council staff members to induct them on the Animal By-Products Legislation, risks associated with each facility and what was required within the working plan.
