The Role
As a Senior Environmental Consultant, you will lead and manage a diverse portfolio of environmental projects, providing technical expertise, project leadership and strategic advice to clients.
You will work closely with colleagues across the business, supporting both project delivery and business growth while helping to develop the next generation of environmental professionals.
This role offers a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex challenges, building client relationships and delivering practical environmental solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage environmental consultancy projects from inception through to completion
- Provide technical support across waste, resource management and environmental compliance projects
- Prepare and review high-quality technical reports and regulatory submissions
- Develop environmental permit applications and supporting assessments
- Advise clients on environmental regulation, compliance requirements and regulatory strategy
- Liaise with regulators, local authorities, contractors and other stakeholders
- Support planning and development projects through technical environmental input
- Mentor and support junior consultants and graduate staff
- Contribute to proposal preparation, business development and client relationship management
- Identify opportunities to add value and develop long-term client partnerships
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced environmental professional who combines strong technical capability with a practical and commercially aware approach.
Essential Requirements
- Degree or Master’s qualification in an environmental, engineering or related discipline
- Typically 5+ years’ experience within environmental consultancy or a related technical role
- Experience preparing environmental permit applications and regulatory submissions
- Strong understanding of environmental regulation and compliance
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously
- Commercial awareness and problem-solving capability
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Chartered status (CIWM, IEMA, CEnv, CEng or equivalent)
- Experience working directly with environmental regulators
- Knowledge of waste management operations and treatment technologies
- Experience supporting business development activities and tender submissions
