CIWM Introducing Profile for Continuing Competence Authentication

Albion are pleased to share a new development from CIWM (WAMITAB) which from 1st February 2024 will enhance and modernise the authentication and verification process for Continuing Competence tests within their Operator Competence Scheme.

Continuing Competence tests administered by Pearson VUE can be verified through CIWM ProFile, a digital credentials system.

CIWM ProFile is a secure smart card solution that enables on-demand verification of Continuing Competence certificates via a unique QR code.

CIWM ProFile enables learners to quickly and easily demonstrate and validate the continuing competence activities they have been certified against through the use of digital credentials.

This virtual solution not only significantly reduces the risk of fraudulent certificates through reliable, real-time authentication, it also enables CIWM (WAMITAB) to uphold a commitment to sustainability by reducing the need for printed paperwork.

Upon successful completion of their test, learners will automatically receive a link via text message and email to download their CIWM ProFile card.

As a candidate we would urge you to download and use your card to demonstrate credentials to employers and regulators.

If you would like to find out more about CIWM ProFile and how it can be used to verify Technically Competent Managers’ credentials, read more here https://ciwmquals.co.uk/competence/continuing-competence/ or contact CIWM at info.admin@ciwm.co.uk

CIWM Continuing Competence News Update April 2023

The CIWM (WAMITAB) have updated their Continuing Competence Tests to ensure questions cover new legislations, technologies and techniques, thus accurately testing the knowledge and skills of technically competence persons.

All technically competent workers must pass the Continuing Competence test every two years in order to meet the requirements of the CIWM(WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. There are regular legislation updates across the waste management industry, and completing the test every 2 years ensures workers knowledge and competence are always up to date. The requirement to complete a Continuing Competence test every two years is not a legal requirement in Scotland, however it is a good way of demonstrating you are up to date and regularly assessed.

CIWM(WAMITAB) have released and update with access to new syllabi which can be found here: https://ciwmquals.co.uk/competence/continuing-competence/

Albion Environmental are a CIWM (WAMITAB) Approved training centre and have a number of resources to support candidates who are required to complete their Continuing Competence test.

Continuing Competence Refresher Course

  • This one-day refresher course is designed to provide candidates with updated understanding of the legislation relating to the Waste industry. The course design has been based on the Generic Syllabus and Learning Guides provided by CIWM (WAMITAB). The refresher course has been designed by experienced assessors who have experience completing and coaching candidates to successfully complete their CIWM (WAMITAB) Continuing Competence test

Continuing Competence Mock Test

  • This allows workers to test their knowledge and prepare for their Continuing Competence test. The test is comprised of 10 randomly selected questions from our question bank, and candidates can re-take the test multiple times.

Congratulations to our Director and Internal Verifier Alasdair Meldrum on achieving renewed CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence!

All competent persons who hold Certificates of Technical Competence with the CIWM (WAMITAB) ‘Operator Competence Scheme’ are required to demonstrate Continuing Competence appropriate to the level of risk posed by the facility they are qualified to manage.

Despite legislation differences between Scotland, England and Wales and Northern Ireland our overall view is that CIWM (WAMITAB) qualifications have been available for over 20 years and are a tried and tested method for demonstrating candidates are competent to manage your site, and these qualifications continue to offer significant benefit to candidates and employers alike.

Although the requirement to demonstrate Continuing Competence legally only applies in England and Wales, it is an ideal method to keep your qualification up to date and current for the whole of the UK.

At Albion, we insist all technically competent staff complete this qualification every 3 years to keep us current and up to date.

Important update regarding CIWM (WAMITAB) Continuing Competence Tests

CIWM have shared an update on additional security measures introduced for Continuing Competence Learners

There have been additional security measures put in place by CIWM(WAMITAB) for all tests administered through Pearson Vue.

Those who are completing the Continuing Competence test are now required to have their photo taken on the day of their test. This photograph will be stored by Pearson Vue and used to check candidates’ identity when returning for their repeat test every two years.

It is important to note that if a candidate refuses to have their photograph taken on the day of their test, the test centre will not allow them to sit their test.

The photo will not be used for any other purpose besides an additional identity check. Learners will have an updated photograph taken every time they take the test to ensure Pearson Vue have up to date identification records.

All personal information is securely stored by Pearson Vue. If you have any queries regarding this update, please contact CIWM directly by emailing info.admin@ciwm.co.uk.
