Unit L&D9DI – Who is this Unit for?

This Unit is designed for individuals who assess in the workplace using a variety of assessment methods, both direct and indirect.

 

Direct Assessment Methods

The assessor candidate will utilize the following direct methods to evaluate workplace performance:

  • Observation
  • Examination of work products (both created and not created at the time of observation)
  • Questioning
 

Indirect Assessment Methods

In addition to direct methods, the assessor candidate may authenticate indirect evidence, such as:

  • Discussions with candidates
  • Testimony from witnesses
  • Reviewing candidate statements
  • Assessing candidates in simulated environments
  • Recognising Prior Learning (RPL), also known as Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA)
 

Purpose of Assessment Decisions

The assessment decisions made by the assessor candidate will be used to confirm achievement in various contexts, including:

  • Assessing SVQs (Scottish Vocational Qualifications)
  • Other workplace qualifications
  • In-company standards
 

Assessment Requirements

For this Unit, assessments must involve a substantial but realistic and manageable piece of the candidate’s work. Each assessment should encompass the full assessment cycle, including:

  • Planning the assessment
  • Judging the evidence
  • Providing feedback
  • Recording the decision
