Introduction to Waste Management Legislation

Background

This one day course (8 hours contact time), which is jointly awarded with Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) has  been designed to provide a basic understanding of the legislation relating to the Waste and Resource Management industry and provide the necessary level of knowledge for anyone dealing with waste on a day to day basis.

The Course is ideally suited to anyone who regularly handles waste and covers legal responsibilities including completing Duty of Care paperwork.

This can include a whole variety of staff including maintenance contractors, builders and facility managers to name a few.

Objectives

  • To understand the main requirements of the “Duty of care” with regards to waste management.
  • To classify various wastes correctly with reference to either the “Lists of Wastes” or the “European Waste Catalogue”

Who Should Attend

Any one who requires an update on current waste legislation issues. Candidates who regularly complete Duty of Care and Special waste paperwork. Candidates wishing to improve their knowledge of Waste Management and any new comers to the Waste Industry.

  • Classification of Waste including correct EWC codes.
  • Duty of care – responsibilities in the “waste chain”

Confirmation of learning is achieved by completion of course exercises.

Qualification

Candidates who complete the course successfully will receive a certificate jointly issued by REHIS and Albion.

This qualification has been mapped against the standards of the “Certificate in Principles of Sustainable Resource Management” (at SCQF Level 5)

Course Certification can also be used to demonstrate APL for other Waste Management awards accredited by WAMITAB and SQA.
