Site Licence and Permit Applications

Site Licencing and Permit Applications

Albion Environmental Limited is one of the UK’s leading consultants specialising in waste management, environmental, health and safety solutions. We deliver strategic advice, support and training to the waste management and construction industries in both the public and private sectors.

We have developed a good knowledge and understanding of the imperatives of both private sector and local authority clients and our flexible working methods have allowed our service delivery to evolve to become truly client facing in these sectors.

We have many years’ experience working with the regulations and SEPA to prepare Waste Management Licence (WML) applications, WML modifications and Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) applications and modifications.

Waste Management Support

Albion Environmental provides a full range of support from assistance applying for minor waste management licence exemptions all the way through to preparing and submitting a pollution prevention and control application. The rules and regulations are now slightly different in Scotland and in England and Wales. We have experience working in both areas and will be willing to advise accordingly.

Our starting point is always to consider your current operation and your future plans. We will also work with the information and expertise which you already retain within your organisation. From there we can the advise what is the most appropriate route for achieving the required permissions.

Pollution Prevention and Control Applications and Modifications

A number of waste management activities are now covered under Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations 2012. We have experience applying for and modification of PPC permits for landfill sites and in vessel composting facilities.

This service as standard includes preparation of Management Plan, completion of SEPA application form and calculation of financial provision. We also provide assistance with site layout, site documentation and surface water and groundwater issues.

SEPA’s Waste Treatment Gap Analysis for Permitted Sites – BATc

SEPA have been issuing Further Information Notices to waste treatment operators to carry out a gap analysis of their activities using a specific spreadsheet, comparing site activities against each relevant BAT conclusion (BATc) and identifying where operators are already meeting the standard, where this either is not being met at the moment, or will not be able to be met.

This includes:

  • Existing permitted plants
  • New/ recently permitted plants (permit from 10/08/22)

Albion’s permitting team can help you to complete the BATc gap analysis spreadsheet. For this we would review the relevant BAT guidance, depending on your site’s activities, and cross check the BATc against your site’s most up to date documentation and operations. We can help you to identify where you meet the standards and where they are not yet met, we can provide you with support to work though the necessary steps to achieve the standards required.

Planning Permission Support

Albion Environmental Ltd continues to provide a comprehensive service to companies either wishing to enter the waste and recycling market or expand their existing premises.

This service as standard includes preparation of Management Plan, completion of SEPA application form and calculation of financial provision. We also provide assistance with site layout, site documentation and surface water and groundwater issues.

Our preferred option is to work in conjunction with the client’s local planning expert, and provide the necessary technical support as required. This has the advantage that any public opposition to the proposal will be more obvious and clearly identified by the client and local planning expert. Work can then be done, at a local level, to resolve and minimise these issues.
