IOSH Chartered Membership Accreditation – Alasdair Meldrum

Albion Environmental Ltd are delighted to announce Alasdair Meldrum’s progression from Graduate Member with IOSH to a Chartered Member (CMIOSH).

As a Chartered Member, businesses, employers and recruitment consultants recognise Chartered status as a shorthand for “best in class” and know they will get the highest professional standards from a Chartered individual.

Alasdair joins Albion’s experienced team of waste management professionals who are registered on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR). OSHCR is a register of consultants who can offer general advice to UK businesses to help them manage health and safety risks. http://www.hse.gov.uk/oshcr/index.htm

Alasdair is also a SWITCH (Scottish Waste Industry Training, Competency, Health & Safety) ambassador. SWITCH is a multi-partnership forum made up of organisations across all sectors within the resource management industry. https://www.zerowastescotland.org.uk/content/switch-forum

Alasdair is on the Education, training & Competency section of SWITCH which is focussed on creating training, learning and development opportunities for the resource management sector.

Jonathan Love Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary with Albion

It is with great pleasure Albion Environmental Ltd are celebrating Jonathan’s 10 years’ service with the company. When Jonathan joined the company in 2008, it comprised of 4 employees with the head office based in rented office space. Through the years Albion has grown steadily moving to its newly refurbished office “Albion House” in 2013. In 2017 an extension was added to increase office space and improve the onsite training facility. We now have a staff of 14.

Jonathan joined the company as an environmental assistant to implement the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 at Levenseat. During his time Jonathan has continued to manage Levenseats environmental management system with the recent successful transition to 2015 standards and now working towards a combined 14001 and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems ISO 45001:2018 system. John has also managed our Business Management System which is accredited to ISO.

Jonathan holds the following Certificates of Technical Competence: Managing Treatment Non-Hazardous Waste, Managing Landfill Non-Hazardous Waste, Managing Transfer Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste, and is currently progressing to Chartered IOSH status.

Key areas of expertise include waste compositional analysis, environmental monitoring and Health, Safety and environmental auditing, compliance and preparation of documents.

It is estimated that Jonathan has managed waste analysis projects sorting through over 300 tonnes of waste. He does grumble about it but secretly he enjoys being the “rubbish expert!!”

IOSH Working Safely Course

Do your employees require a rounding of the essentials in health in safety? Regardless of sector or level everyone at work should have an understanding of why they must “work safely” – and this course offers exactly that!

The IOSH Working Safely Course is a 1 day course. It is a fun, jargon-free course designed to be inclusive yet highly effective, and can be delivered in-house to up to 12 candidates. Through a mixture of lecturing, case studies and exercises our highly experienced trainers will take you through 5 modules, consisting of:

  • Introducing Working Safely
  • Defining hazards and risks
  • Identifying common hazards
  • Improving safety performance
  • Protecting our environment

Confirmation of learning is achieved by completion of the written and practical assessments at the end with successful candidates receiving an IOSH certificate in Working Safely. The one-day programme includes the assessment, so there’s no need to free up further time for a test after the course.

Alasdair Meldrum, Managing Director of Albion Environmental Ltd has achieved IOSH Graduate Membership Status. To become a Graduate Member of IOSH you must hold an accredited qualification or a cognate degree.  All Graduate Members join an Initial Professional Development scheme which takes between 2 to 5 years to complete and upon successful completion Chartered Membership is awarded.  Congratulations Alasdair, this achievement is testament to both your and Albion’s H&S ethos.
