Albion’s ABC’s of Waste Management -J

J – Journey (waste journey)

Waste and recyclable materials are produced as a part of our daily life. These materials can be produced through manufacture/production of the things we consume and, by us as a result of our individual actions.  Ensuring that the resulting materials are managed and tracked effectively is becoming ever more important as we recognise the need to protect resources, finances and the environment at large.

Garbage Direction

Examples of the Waste/Recycling Journey that materials take can include:

  • Tracking materials from the point of disposal through the process to the point of creation, an excellent example of this is packaging waste produced in industry/commercial sectors.
  • Tracking materials from collection through Recycling Facilities (MRF) to the final treatment/disposal option, an excellent example of this in Local Authority Kerbside Collections

Recording the journey that the materials take after they’ve been produced will help with the following:

  • Assessing performance as part of Waste Audit processes
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Ensuring legal compliance
  • Supporting education for colleagues, customers and member of the public
