Update on Environmental Monitoring Service

Albion Environmental Ltd provides a quality and flexible service of environmental monitoring tailored to the needs of our individual clients. Our staff have extensive experience and are well trained in providing this service which covers a wide area.

We can supply lab analysis for liquid, gas or solid samples taken on and off site at very competitive rates.

All liquid samples are checked visually to discern any obvious signs of contamination, like distinctive colours or odours. These observations are recorded for future reference if the lab analysis differs from normal expectations. When monitoring landfill gas, it is vital to ensure the gas is under control and that there are no signs of migration off site. We therefore try to detect problems with odours prior to them developing. We carry out site inspections when on site to identify any potential problems before any environmental damage develops or licence conditions are breached. It is important to make sure all sampling points are kept within compliance levels and high risk areas checked along with WML (Waste Management Licence) and PPC (Pollution Prevention and Control) conditions. We provide reliable staff to keep our clients informed of any such problems and follow strict safety procedures wearing the correct PPE at all times and being visually aware of our surroundings.

CQA Engineering Work

Albion Environmental Ltd provides CQA Engineering as part of a wide range of services. CQA stands for Construction Quality Assurance. Our staff are highly trained and have years of experience in CQA engineering. We provide a CQA representative on site throughout the works to monitor day to day activities as well as provide a CQA Engineer who is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 15 years experience.

The CQA work provides the assurance and validation for each of the elements of the engineering. We have experience in providing CQA for both the installation of boreholes as well as landfill cell engineering.

In the past 12 months we have undertaken CQA work for the construction of a new landfill cell for Straid Farms Ltd at their Landfill Site near Girvan. The key areas for this were the landfill containment cell liner, containment cell leachate drainage and collection system and the connection to the previous landfill cell. The cell was initially lined with 500mm clay followed by a GCL Liner System layer and finally a 2.5mm HDPE liner with a protective geotextile fleece. The CQA for the engineering works ensured levels conformed to the design at all stages of construction as well as the quality and consistency of all materials used. Levels of formation and samples of materials were taken daily throughout construction.

We also provided CQA for the construction of Tarbolton Landfill Ltd’s new landfill cell at their site near Tarbolton.
Albion Environmental Ltd also undertook the CQA work for Infinis’ new gas collection well installations at Greengairs, Oatslie, Tarbothill and Wester Hatton Landfill Sites. The detailed logs provide specific descriptions of all waste materials removed from the installation at the relevant depths. Again the CQA for the engineering works ensured levels conformed to the design at all stages of construction as well as the quality and consistency of all materials used.

Similar works have also been carried out on behalf of WRG at their Greengairs Landfill Site who required CQA on a leachate compliance well re-drill.
