CQA Engineering Work

Albion are currently undertaking the CQA work for North Ayrshire Council’s new landfill cell in Irvine in conjunction with Halcrow. The engineering works for the new cell started on 1st June 2005and is expected to be complete by September 2005. The CQA work provides the assurance and validation for each of the elements of the installation. The key areas for this are the landfill containment cell liner, containment cell leachate drainage and collection system and the perimeter surface water system. The cell is being initially lined with clay followed by a 500mm BES (Bentonite Enriched Sand) layer and finally a 2.5mm HDPE liner with a protective geotextile fleece. The CQA for the engineering works must ensure levels conform to the design at all stages of construction as well as the quality and consistency of all materials used. Levels of formation and samples of materials are taken daily throughout construction.
