Albion Environmental Ltd was pleased to deliver the first Chartered Institute of Wastes Management Waste Awareness Course to South Lanarkshire Council on 19th November 2003. The course was delivered to staff responsible for educating the public in the new waste collection systems being rolled out across the area. The course was well received by all staff.

The Course provides the legislative background and also provides a number of examples that are worked through by the candidate. The Course has been designed to:

* ensure staff understand the legal requirements

* ensure staff are capable of completing paperwork correctly

* ensure staff get practice in completing paperwork and allocating the correct European Waste Catalogue Code

Commenting on the course, contracts manager Andy McNish said “the course gave staff the confidence to deal with the paperwork correctly” and also “the transfer station operators and drivers now have a better understanding of the requirements placed upon them by the Duty of Care Regulations and the Waste Management Licence with regard to recording the movement and disposal of waste and the responsibilities that go along with it”. The success of the course was down to the fact that the course was tailored to Oakbank Services requirements.
